NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) has released on their official Youtube channel a video, displaying a preview of the global warming over 64 years period between 1950-2013. The 15-seconds time-lapse shows how the average temperature on Earth has changed compared to the second half of the 20th century.

The video was created by the Institute for Space Studies Goddart, which is a division of NASA. One of the main objectives of the Institute is prediction of climate change in the 21st century. Their study combines paleogeological record, analysis of comprehensive global datasets (derived mainly from spacecraft observations), with global models of atmospheric, land surface, and oceanic processes.

The researchers confirmed that the 1880 annual average temperature has risen by 0.8 degrees Celsius. Average global temperature over the past 12 months was 14.6 degrees Celsius. This figure is higher by 0.6 degrees compared with weather date from the mid 20th century.

According to the analysis of NASA, 2013 was the seventh warmest year since 1880, continuing the long trend of rising global temperature. With the exception of 1998, the 10 warmest years in the 133-year record all have occurred since 2000, with 2010 and 2005 ranking as the hottest years on record.

NASA collects data on the climate change from more than 4,000 meteorological stations around the world, including Antarctica and temperature measurements of ocean surface made from space. The researchers add that even if 2014 is not warmer than the previous years, the trend of global warming will continue with each decade if the current levels of greenhouse gases are maintained or increased.
